Willow & Mabel Garden Co., Farmer Florist, Part II, Poulsbo Photographer

The days are long, but the weeks are short when you’re managing a farm of flowers in summer bloom. Mind you, the work doesn’t slow down once the flowers emerge and running a business with a perishable product is sure to make you sweat under the sun. That’s where preparation holds the key. You’ve seen the preparations in the greenhouse from the springtime when these flowers were nothing but a scattering of seeds. Since then, the last frost came and went, spring slipped into summer and Carolyn has done a fine job of turning her dirt into a work of art. I know firsthand the effort that went into growing this stunning bounty and it will never be lost on me.

I got to jump into this intoxicating bed of flowers as we documented Carolyn’s summer harvest and I have no shame in sharing that I had a hard time tearing myself away from this botanical Disneyland. Can’t I just sleep here? From one row to the next, the delicate scents hug you and kiss you as you walk from one end to the other, dusting the petals with your fingertips and dreaming up arrangements to place on every flat surface of your home just as I did.

Everybody, growing flowers is pure magic!

Look on, to see Carolyn working the harvest and then go check out Willow & Mabel Garden Co.!
