She broke me in the most beautiful way.
She is Amazing Grace.
How these concept portraits came together were unlike any kind of production. The seed started with a little vision in my mind that I wanted to express through the eyes of a girl that is free to roam and just be. A white cotton dress was thrown into a bag and she just happens to likes hats and chose to bring this one along for the trip. Not the red western hat or the fedora. This hat. It really didn’t matter which hat or dress she chose because it was her spirit alone that I wanted to celebrate. She’s a climber; a risk taker and never afraid to get a scrape on her knee. That’s the basis of my mind’s method behind children’s concept photography; I strive to personalize the entire vision process to the subject, to the point that they don’t know anything different other than to let their personalities soar in front of my camera.
The concept of ‘Amazing Grace’ is one that I kept returning to as a place to echo my faith as a relatively new parent with but one wish to see her own child grow up to be happy in a rapidly changing world. Your Amazing Grace could mean something entirely different than what it means to me, but that’s what makes it so timeless and honest.
